FINANCIAL SUPPORT
No ministry can exist without financial support. Because
ELHM is growing larger every year, we are in need of on-going
support, such as monthly commitments. Donors may give
one-time, monthly, or any way they desire. Gifts may be
designated for Bibles, personal support for a staff member,
shipping cost, rent, or general operation of the ministry.
Although we all have different things we like to designate
our gifts for, and these are always welcome, without
sufficient operation funds, the ministry would not exist.
Nothing else could be done.
All designated gifts are spent 100% on the project it is
given for. The only exception can be found under gifts to
the 50,000 Club If funds are
given for a special project and all needs have been met, the
extra funds will be used in a related project.
On-going Projects For Which Designated Gifts Are
Received
BIBLES
ELHM has an on-going grant that allows us to purchase
Bibles at $1.25 each and book-size New Testaments at $.44
cents each. These are only available for free distribution
overseas and are only in English and Spanish.
STAFF SUPPORT At
present, the only person raising personal support is Edwin
Hodges. However, it is our desire to hire four additional
staff members. Monthly gifts for personal support will allow
us to hire this additional help. We do not have sufficient
income to hire anyone. It is therefore our policy that each
staff member raise their own personal support. Additional
staff are desperately needed to work in the areas of
administration, receiving and shipping, recruitment, training
and supervision of volunteers and fund-raising.
SHIPPING
Many people have begun to designate their gifts for
shipping. This has allowed us to do far more than we ever
dreamed possible. We are now sending large 20' and 40'
containers. This is of course a very effective way to
ship.
The suggested donation is $1.00 per pound for donated
literature. We request that those who donate the literature
assist in the shipping cost. This will help get the material
overseas in a timelier manner.
In May 2007, the United
States Postal Service deleted the "Surface Rate." What this
means is that we can no longer ship packages of literature
overseas unless it is shipped airmail. The problem with that
is the increase of the shipping cost from one dollar a pound
to $3.40 a pound.
The cost for one container may run from $2,700 to $7,000,
depending on the destination and whether or not it is
necessary to ship overland from the port. A container will
hold an average of 42,000 pounds of literature. It
is possible for an individual group to pay the entire cost
of shipping a container to a country of their choice or
ours. We are looking for Container
Sponsors. Please click
here to see our current list of containers awaiting
shipping funds.
The best way we have found to help with the shipping cost
is through our 50,000 Club.

RENTPresently, we
have two who designate their gift to pay the rent on our
office and warehouse.
SPECIAL PROJECTS
From time to time we raise funds for vehicles, equipment,
etc. Our special project at present is for a newer van. We
have an older one that is on its last leg. Rear seats are
removed and a freight grid is installed so as to transport
small donations of literature and carry pre-packed boxes to
church speaking engagements and conferences.
FRIENDS OF THE MINISTRY CLUB
Friends Of The Ministry Club Members contribute $20.00
monthly for the operating cost of the ministry. If enough of
these can be found, they will provide the financial
under-girding of the ministry.

SECURITIES
Over the last several years, we have seen historic gains in
the stock market. Many security holdings have a tremendous
level of unrealized gain. This is the good news. The bad news
is that if these appreciated securities are sold, at least 20%
of the gain will be lost to taxation. Now is a strategic time
to consider the effectiveness of donating these types of
assets. In making outright gifts, it is typically wise
financial stewardship to give assets that are in the form of
appreciated securities (e.g., stocks or mutual funds). Unlike
gifts of cash that have already incurred an income tax, gifts
of these appreciated assets avoid the incurrence of capital
gain tax. In addition, you receive an income tax charitable
deduction for the full fair market value of the asset. That,
in effect, makes these gifts less costly to make. If it is
your desire to make a gift, please consider a gift of
appreciated assets.
Here is how it
works:

As you can see, these numbers highlight three benefits
of donating stock:
- Avoiding capital gain tax
- Increased financial support to ministry
- Larger tax deduction
Though it is important to consider the tax implications
of making gifts, it is also important to invest your giving in
order to further the mission of the ministry that God has laid
on your heart. (Reprinted by permission from Focus on
