Frequently Asked Questions
ANSWERS
1. What
is ELHM?
see here.
2. How
may I contact ELHM?
see here.
3. How
is ELHM funded?
The ministry's operating
budget is derived solely of voluntary contributions
from churches and individuals who love the Lord and who are
concerned about the need for Christian literature overseas.
Approximately 98% of the ministry's income is used to support program services. Only
1% is used for administration and 1% for fundraising.
4.
What is ELHM's Fund-Raising Philosophy?
You can read about ELHM's Fund-Raising Philosophy here.
5. Does
ELHM have a Conflict of Interest/Confidentiality Policy?
You can read ELHM's Conflict of Interest/Confidentiality Policy here.
6. How
can people overseas use English literature?
Several
African countries were former British colonies and therefore
use English. The
same thing is true of India, where 25% of the population
can read and speak English. The trade language
of the Philippines is English. We only ship English
literature where it can be used.
7. Where
do you get the names to ship to?
Many nationals whom I have
met over the years write requesting literature.
Once these learn they can get it free, they tell others. We also
have five different ministries that give us names of
churches & Bible
schools that need literature.
8. Where
are you sending the literature?
In just two and one-half years, God has
enabled us to send our literature to 60 countries,
on six continents. The only part of the world we have
not
shipped to is Antarctica.
9. Don't
they have literature of their own?
Our research shows that 80 percent of
Christians outside the United States have no Christian
literature at all, if you don't count tracts.
So many people are now being saved that there are not enough trained leaders
to disciple them
and almost no literature so they can study on their
own.
10. Why
can't I just ship the literature myself?
Some ask, "If I am willing to box and
ship my materials overseas, wouldn't that be better than
shipping it to you? I could save the extra shipping
cost."
One literature ministry works on this
principle. We do not. At least, not at this
time. The reason is that we are filling orders
that churches & Bible schools have requested.
In
any one order there may be many different things, such
as Bibles, New Testaments, tracts, tapes, various types
of books, Sunday School magazines, etc. It is
much easier to handle the shipping from one location. And,
unless the boxes are strong and properly packed they
won't make the trip
to the other
side of the world.
11. Do
you get any feedback?
Yes, we receive letters almost every
day thanking us for the literature we sent to them.
Many times they will send photographs of the materials as
it is being given out. We will
be happy to send you copies of some of these letters
for the asking. See
here.
12. What
kind of literature do you need?
New and used Bibles and New Testaments. Christian books
of all kinds, including hymn books, cassettes, magazines, Sunday
school literature,
tracts and videos (all doctrinally sound). Bibles with
helps, commentaries, concordances, and Bible dictionaries are especially
needed.
13. Do
you use old Sunday School literature?
Yes! The truth taught in this material
is as good as the day it was printed.
14. How
do you get the literature overseas?
We package it in boxes weighing
eleven pounds, for the most part, and carry it or ship it to
churches and ask the membership to pay the postage. The
cost is $11.40 per box.
15. What
happens once the literature gets to you?
It
is sorted by Bibles, books, magazines, tracts and tapes. Then
each of these have finer breakdowns.
For example, we sort the Sunday school literature by
age groups and quarters, putting pupil books, teacher
books and resource kits together. They are then
packed according to requests made by letter or on one
of our order forms.
16. How
can I be personally involved? see

17. How
can we donate Christian literature? see

18. Is
there really a need for Christian literature overseas?
Our research shows that 80 percent of
Christians outside the United States have no Christian
literature at all, if you don't count tracts.
So many people are now being saved that
there are not enough trained leaders to disciple them
and, almost no literature so they can study on their
own.
19. Is
Edwin L. Hodges available to speak and for conferences?
see here.
20. Can
short-term mission groups get
literature?
We are very happy to supply whatever
materials we have to groups going on short-term mission
trips overseas.
Remember that most of the literature
we have is in English, and most of the literature in
foreign languages will be tracts.
One exception is Spanish literature. We
usually have a limited amount of Bibles and New Testaments,
tracts, evangelism materials, color books for children,
and small Bible study books in this language.
We were recently able to supply 3,600
pounds of Spanish literature for a medical team going
to Honduras. From time to time we receive evangelism
literature in other languages.
If you have a need, feel free to ask.
